Most notice that are sent out from the IRS are created by the “Automated Collection System” or ACS. There are many different types of these automated notices but you can generally determine fairly quickly and easily if the notice was sent by the automated system, or alternatively, if it was sent by a specific individual that has been assigned to your case. These individuals can be labeled as a “Revenue Officer”, “Examiner”, or various other titles. If your case is being handled by a specific individual, you can generally find their personal contact information listed at the top of the first page and again in the signature block at the end of the notice.
